In yet another “honour killing,” a woman was shot dead inside the Karachi municipal court by her own father for reportedly choosing to wed a guy of her choosing, according to police officials.

The victim was being brought inside the court’s grounds by Head Constable Imran Zaman and female constables to be produced before the court, according to the senior superintendent of police.

As her father, 65-year-old Ameer Zaman Mehsud, pursued them, he started shooting near gate number four as soon as the woman entered the court grounds.

According to the police, the suspect shot at the head constable and the father’s daughter, killing the father’s daughter while injuring Imran and Wajid.

According to the SSP, the deceased was between the ages of 18 and 20.

The suspect’s weapon was taken away, and he was detained, according to the police.

The woman was killed after being married, according to the SSP, who spoke to Geo News.

In Karachi’s Shamsi Society in November of last year, a man is accused of using a sharp-edged weapon to kill his 38-year-old wife and their three daughters, ages 16, 12, and 10, before making an unsuccessful attempt to stab himself to death.

The suspect, known as Fawad, claimed he was down because of money problems and was sick of having to explain everything to his wife. He admitted that he had murdered his daughters while his wife was in the restroom.

More instances of femicide have been documented in Pakistan, including the notorious slaying of Sara Inam, daughter-in-law of renowned writer Ayaz Amir, by her husband in Islamabad’s Chak Shahzad neighbourhood in September of last year.

Murder and other violent crimes have grown in the city over the last few months, contributing to an increase in lawlessness.

In Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar neighbourhood, a Sindh Rangers member was also shot and killed the day before.

The attack looked to be motivated by personal animosity, according to the authorities. According to the police official, the killed law enforcement officer was assigned to the Rangers Headquarters and left after taking a leave of absence.

Abdul Rahim Sherazi, the senior superintendent of police for East, reported that Muhammad Khalid, a member of the Rangers, had dropped by at the nearby Millennium Shopping Mall and was on the phone. Two suspects on a motorcycle approached him while he was on call and started conversing with him. Then the assailants started shooting at Khalid.

The victim was apparently targeted owing to family animosity, according to the police. According to the sources, the brother of a Ranger who was killed in rural Sindh a few years ago.
