KARACHI – Amjad Shoaib, a retired lieutenant general in the Pakistan Army, was condemned by a district court in the capitol city to spend the next three days in police custody after making “controversial statements” on a recent talk show.
During today’s proceedings, the prosecutor charged the former soldier with spreading violence against various groups through his remarks in the media and requested the court to order his physical detention.
But, after a few discussions, the defence attorney challenged the physical remand and asserted that the defendant’s statements had not broken any laws. Moreover, he insisted that Lt. Gen. (r) Amjad Shoaib had fought in both the wars of 1965 and 1971.
Following the arguments, the judge ordered Amjad Shoaib to spend three days in police custody.

Controversial remarks made during a chat show on a private news station led to the arrest of police in the nation’s federal capital.
According to reports in the local media, Lt. Gen. (ret.) Amjad Shoaib was detained early on Monday and taken to Islamabad’s Ramna police station. Later on Monday, he appeared in front of a municipal judge for remand.
According to the FIR, which Daily Pakistan has a copy of, a case was filed on the basis of a complaint made by Magistrate Awais Khan under sections 153A and 505 of the Pakistan Criminal Code.

The complainant said in the FIR that the former soldier had provoked institutions during a recent interview on Bol TV. In the FIR, Lt. Gen. Shoaib was cited for recent remarks he made on the popular television programme “Imran Khan Bol Kay Sath,” which were alleged to have been an attempt to incite opposition to the government by public sector workers.
The former three-star general has had legal problems in the past as well. The FIA summoned the former Pakistan Army lieutenant general last year for making “baseless allegations” against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The former military official who is now a defence analyst gives testimony to a top investigation agency and documents the encounter in a vlog posted on his YouTube account.
Lt. Gen (r) Shoaib shares his opinions on geopolitical issues on discussion shows in the mainstream media as well as on his YouTube channel, DDP Analytica – Diplomacy & Politics Analysis.
